Nancy’s Bake Shoppe has officially opened in Green. The shop is open from sun up to sun down and is a self-service and self-pay concept. Owner Nancy Kimbrough talks about how the shop’s idea came about, “The fact is, a farmer’s market, I wouldn’t always sell everything, and I come home and not know what to do with the product. So I thought, wouldn’t it be fun to build a building of some kind, then I could stay home and still do what I do? That was the first time Aaron and I started talking about it.”
Nancy looked at various designs online before her son Aaron Kimbrough decided to build the building that houses the shop. It has a rustic design with a white exterior and black trim. A hand-painted sign above the door reads “Nancy’s Bake Shoppe. ” Inside the double doors, warm lighting creates an inviting glow, highlighting the baked goods displayed on shelves behind a protective wire mesh.
Kimbrough stocks her shelves with pies, breads, muffins, and cookies. She is still learning as she goes, but she says the shop will be open in the fall and winter months as long as the weather is cool so her baked goods don’t melt in the heat.
The shop is in Green, two blocks south of the school, or at 1001 Dixon Avenue.
