Every year Wreaths Across America (WAA) in Kansas looks to local sponsorship groups to help lay wreaths to honor veterans in their communities that have passed. Each year the Top 5 sponsorship groups are recognized for their contributions to this effort.

The Nathan Edson Chapter DAR, serving Clay and Cloud Counties, was recognized as a Top 5 sponsorship group in 2023. Jeanna Walters-Fancella, Location Coordinator, said they used information booths and a mobile exhibit to help raise awareness in the community.

Fancella said there are approximately 1200 veterans laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery. Nathan Edson started a “Red Hat Brigade” to help local youth get involved.
