Today, Monday, April 8, Representative Sharice Davids extended an invitation to high school students from Kansas’ Third Congressional District to take part in her 2024 Congressional Art Competition. The winning piece will be showcased for one year in the U.S. Capitol, and the artist will receive recognition at a ceremony held in Washington D.C.

“Our community is home to many talented young artists, and it has been an honor to showcase their talent on a national level through the Congressional Art Competition,” said Davids. “I once again encourage all high school-aged artists in Kansas’ Third District to take part in this competition and share their skills. I look forward to seeing this year’s submissions and walking past one in the U.S. Capitol later this year.”

Submissions for art will be accepted by Davids’ team on April 18, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at their Overland Park District Office. While artwork themed around Kansas is encouraged, all original submissions meeting the guidelines are accepted. The announcement of the winning artwork will be made publicly in the upcoming months.

The Congressional Art Competition originated in 1982 to offer Members of Congress a chance to foster and acknowledge the artistic abilities of their constituents. Over the years, the nationwide competition has engaged more than 650,000 high school students.
