On Tuesday December 5th, Safe Kids Kansas presented Safe Kids Cloud County with the Local Coalition of The Year Award. This award recognizes a local Safe Kids Coalition in Kansas that has done outstanding prevention work in their community.

Safe Kids Cloud County has held a variety of events for prevention work. Katie Kearn, Safe Kids Coordinator, shared with us some of the prevention work they focus on, including safe sleep and medication safety.

“With medication safety, our coalition hands out medication lockboxes. As for Safe Sleep, our coalition held two Community Baby Showers, one in the spring and one in the fall. We hope to continue that going into 2024,” Kearn said.

Bike Rodeos are another big event they do for the community. “Every year, we hold at least two bike rodeos, like last year, we held three bike rodeos (in) Miltonvale, Clyde, and Jamestown.” Going into 2024, they plan to host bike rodeos in Concordia, Glasco, and possibly Aurora. “The bike rodeos teach kids how to be safe when riding in the road and it teaches them to follow basic laws of the road,” she shared.
