New data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) sheds light on the devastating impact of distracted driving across the nation. On average, approximately 9 lives are lost daily due to distracted driving-related accidents, with drivers under age 44 being disproportionately affected. The NHTSA’s findings underscore the urgent need for heightened awareness and preventative measures to curb this concerning trend. In Kansas, preliminary 2023 data indicates that distracted driving contributed to 102 fatalities and over 450 injuries, highlighting the severity of the issue at the local level. As Distracted Driving Awareness Month unfolds, stakeholders are urged to take proactive steps to address this pressing public safety concern and save lives on the road.
