Washington County Commissioners Break Tie in Election

By Tim Voelker

This year’s election in Washington County brought about a relatively rare occurrence. There was a tie. The tie was in the race for USD 108 Washington County School Board Position 3. The tie was between Kelsey Beikmann and Lindsey Hatesohl.  Each of the candidates received 60 votes.  After provisional ballots were counted each candidate received one additional vote.  So the tie remained.  In a situation such as this, the County Commissioners must break the tie. On Monday, the Commissioners broke the tie with a coin flip. Kelsey Beikmann was declared the winner
