Riley County Fire District #1 (RCFD #1) responded to five traffic accidents during a snow squall on Sunday, December 28, between approximately 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. The crashes occurred as snow and rapidly changing road conditions created hazardous driving conditions across the area.
While returning from an accident response on K-18, an RCFD #1 supervisor vehicle was struck by a civilian vehicle. Riley County Police Department issued citations to the civilian driver, who was transported for medical care. The RCFD#1 Battalion Chief was not injured, but the vehicle sustained major damage.
Riley County officials remind drivers that winter weather can quickly change road conditions. Motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and remain alert, especially during snowstorms with reduced visibility. Driving for conditions can help prevent crashes and protect both the public and emergency responders.
