The United Way of Junction City and Geary County will offer a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, which provides free tax preparation services to individuals and families with low to moderate incomes during tax season from late January through mid-April.

During the most recent tax season, VITA volunteers prepared more than 500 tax returns, resulting in over $750,000 in refunds returned to the community. The program relies on volunteers to ensure eligible taxpayers receive accurate filings and the full benefits they qualify for.

Volunteer opportunities are available for both certified and non-certified roles, including greeters, interpreters, computer specialists, tax preparers, and quality reviewers. Free training is provided for all positions, including tax law certification for preparers and reviewers.

Those interested in learning more or volunteering can contact United Way of Junction City and Geary County for additional information and training resources.
