At around 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, a tornado in Westmoreland, KS caused damages on the west side of town. According to officials in Pottawatomie County, 22 homes were destroyed, and 13 other homes were damaged, along with at least one commercial building. A spokesperson for the county also confirmed in a news release that there was one fatality, and three others were injured.
The National Weather Service in Topeka said they will do storm surveys in response to the tornado reports. This will include the counties of Nemaha, Pottawatomie, Shawnee, and Jefferson.
