March 4th through the 8th is Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Kansas, put on by the National Weather Service in Topeka. Each day will cover a different topic on severe weather and how to keep yourself and your family safe and prepared during these hazards.
Chad Omitt, Warning Coordination Meteorologist for the National Weather Service says this is a week to prepare yourself for the inevitable here in Kansas.
Daily Topics will include:
· Monday: Preparedness and Alerts
· Tuesday: Flood Safety
· Wednesday: Tornado Safety, with a Statewide Tornado Drill
· Thursday: Hail and Wind Safety
· Friday: Lightning Safety
Omitt did discuss a newer change in how you get alerts with an added alert.
