Geary Co., Kan. — Geary County Rural Fire Department and those in the surrounding area had a busy day yesterday with Chief Gary Berges reporting five different fires in the county alone.
While the total number of acres burned in the Morris County fire wasn’t known as of this morning, Chief Berges reported it stretched about 13 miles from north to south.
In Geary County the largest of the five fires was on on the Dickinson – Geary County line which burned roughly 80 acres. There were three other fires at the same time but were smaller.
Berges said today they’re working to figure out what caused the fires.
The fire chief also reminds people that it is dry outside so please do not burn outside or throw cigarettes out.
No injuries have been reported from the fires.
