Memorial Health System (MHS) is excited to announce a hospice room is being constructed at Village Manor, thanks to funding from Hospice of Dickinson County. This collaboration exemplifies MHS’s commitment to teamwork, community, and compassionate care.

Affiliates of MHS, Hospice of Dickinson County, and Village Manor have served Abilene and surrounding areas for over 40 years, offering expertise in elder care, homebound support, and terminal illness care. Village Manor, a 75-bed long-term care facility, prioritizes personalized care, including services for Alzheimer’s patients, short-term recovery, skilled nursing, and soon, a dedicated hospice room.

Unlike the existing inpatient hospice room at the hospital, the new space at Village Manor promises enhanced privacy and discretion for patients and their families. It honors the memory of Elizabeth “Beth” Schmitt and Jo Ann Royer, pioneers of Dickinson County’s hospice program, by naming the rooms in their honor. This development exemplifies MHS’s ongoing dedication to holistic end-of-life care within the community.
