Updated traffic changes on I-70 at Junction City

Beginning Wednesday, May 8, weather permitting, KDOT will reopen the eastbound on ramp at exit 296/Washington Street and close the westbound off ramp at exit 296/Washington Street for reconstruction in addition to the following ramp closures:

  • Westbound exit 299 on ramp is scheduled to remain closed until November.
  • Westbound exit 298 off ramp is scheduled to remain closed until November.

Weather permitting, the contractor has scheduled the following ramps to remain open as follows:

  • Westbound exit 298 on ramp is scheduled to remain open until late May, at which point it will close for about 45 days for reconstruction.
  • Westbound exit 296 on ramp is scheduled to remain open until westbound exit 298 on ramp has been reopened in early July, at which point it will close until November while KDOT and Junction City replace pavement on the Washington Street roundabout.

Traffic on westbound and eastbound I-70 at Junction City has been updated to be reduced to one lane from mile marker 294.5 to mile marker 300 while median crossovers carry one lane of westbound traffic through construction on the eastbound lanes in Junction City.

Phase Two is scheduled to be completed in November. Phase Three to replace deteriorated pavement in the eastbound lanes is scheduled to begin in March 2025. All project phases are to be completed by December 2025, weather permitting. Wildcat Construction Co. Inc. and Subsidiaries, of Wichita, is the prime contractor of this $30 million project.

KDOT urges all motorists to be alert and obey the warning signs when approaching and driving through a highway work zone. For more information on the project, visit https://www.ksdot.gov/bureaus/divOperat/i_70pavementreplacementproject.asp.
