The USDA has declared the availability of roughly $22.3 million for organizations such as community-based and nonprofit groups, higher education institutions, and Tribal entities. These funds aim to assist underserved and veteran farmers and ranchers in owning and operating successful farms. The funding is provided through the USDA’s 2501 Program, which is managed by the USDA’s Office of Partnerships and Public Engagement (OPPE).

The 2501 Program, in collaboration with nationwide organizations, has been aiding underserved and veteran farmers and ranchers for over 30 years. The program was expanded in 2014 to include veterans and received increased funding in the 2018 Farm Bill through fiscal year 2024. The program funds education, training, farming demonstrations, and agribusiness conferences. Since 2010, it has enhanced access to USDA’s programs and services, awarding 615 grants totaling over $194 million. The 2023 grantee Farm to Table Guam is assisting Guam farmers with business training and crop production, while the Quivira Coalition is educating New Mexico’s rural producers about arid land stewardship and conservation.

Applicants that are eligible include non-profit organizations, community-oriented groups, and various institutions of higher education.
