Junction City Commissioners agreed to provide another $50,000 in funding for a new Geary County Food Pantry facility that will be built in Junction City Tuesday evening. This comes on top of $50,000 provided by the City in December. Food Pantry spokesman Brad Carlton noted in December the City asked them to return.
The Geary County Commission will be approached next week with a similar $50,000 funding request.
The need for food from the Pantry has doubled since COVID-19. Carlton informed the Board that the current facility is “busting at the seams.” He also noted that Hutton Construction will build the new facility at cost.
Before Tuesday $320,000 of $500,000 needed had been raised for the new building project.
