After two years of work, Clay Center is about to get a downtown speaker system.

Three wired, 360-degree speakers will be placed on three corners of the Clay County Courthouse lawn and project music and announcements throughout the downtown area. Grow Clay County Director Natalie Muruato said the speakers will improve “the downtown ambiance.”

Muruato said workers are already making preparations for the speakers to be installed. She said the speakers will be up and running before this year’s Piotique Parade and will be helpful in directing and announcing that and other future events on the Courthouse Square
