The Wakefield Bombers secured a decisive 46-0 victory over Goessel High School on Friday, September 6. Despite being shorthanded with only 12 players due to illness and injury, the Bombers saw strong performances from both their veterans and younger players, with four freshmen and two sophomores getting significant playing time.

Coach Chris Freeman expressed his satisfaction with the team’s efforts, noting the contributions of the junior offensive and defensive line: Kingsly Smith, Daxton Summerson, and Presley Keeler. “They did a solid job all night,” Freeman said. He also highlighted the standout performances of Kobe Wendt, who had a productive night catching, running, and playing defense, as well as Nick Freeman, who led the team in rushing and added an interception.

The Bombers controlled the game from start to finish, with multiple players finding the end zone. Wendt scored twice on the ground, while Nick Freeman added another rushing touchdown. Kingsly Smith and Noa Laffery also scored for the first time in their high school careers, a moment that clearly meant a lot to the young players. Zaiden True found the end zone twice, rounding out the scoring for the Bombers.

Freeman acknowledged that while the team had a strong start, there’s still work to be done. “We have lots to work on and clean up, but we are starting in the right direction. It was a great feeling to see the kids reap the rewards of the hard work and sacrifice they’ve put in this past offseason,” he said.

The Bombers will next face Solomon on Friday.
