After finishing the 2025 season with an 82-80 record and missing the postseason, the Kansas City Royals are expected to make some changes to their coaching staff. General manager J.J. Picollo said most of the staff, including manager Matt Quatraro and hitting coach Alec Zumwalt, will return in 2026, but adjustments are being considered to help improve the team’s offense.
Kansas City scored 651 runs this season, ranking fifth-worst in MLB. The offense improved after the All-Star break, but inconsistency early in the year hurt the team’s playoff chances. The Royals also plan to hire a new Minor League director of hitting performance after not renewing Drew Saylor’s contract. On the pitching side, coaches Brian Sweeney, Zach Bove, and Mitch Stetter are expected to remain. The team will also review its baserunning approach following frequent mistakes during the season.
