On Tuesday, October 21st, each building in USD 379 will be conducting a Cardiac Emergency Response Drill as part of the district’s commitment to student safety and emergency preparedness.

During this drill, staff will practice responding to a simulated cardiac emergency using a training manikin. This exercise is designed as a training session for staff, not as a scare for students. All activities will be age-appropriate, and students will be cleared from the scene in the same way we would in the event of a real emergency.

We are grateful to have Project ADAM/Children’s Mercy training staff from Kansas City present during this drill. They will observe the exercise and provide valuable feedback to help ensure our staff is prepared to respond quickly and effectively in a real situation.

USD 379 wants families and community members to know that this drill is a proactive step to strengthen our emergency readiness and to help keep our school a safe place for every student.

In the United States, it is estimated that annually 356,000 adults experience out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, along with 23,000 pediatric cardiac arrests. Approximately 90 percent of these people will not survive this event. However, the likelihood of survival increases with prompt intervention, which includes immediate CPR and restoration of normal heart rhythm with the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).
