Kansas State junior Symone Sims was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after a standout performance in the Wildcats’ five-set win over Kansas. It is the first conference weekly award of her career and the first defensive honor for a K-State player since 2023.
Sims led the Wildcats with a career-high 26 digs, helping limit the Jayhawks to a .104 hitting percentage — their lowest of the season. K-State finished with 93 digs, the most by any Big 12 team this year.
A native of Frisco, Texas, Sims also recorded eight assists and two aces in the win, which snapped an eight-match losing streak to Kansas. She now ranks third in the Big 12 with 4.00 digs per set.
