To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, the Charles and Marian Cook Series will partner with the Camp Concordia Preservation Society to present the documentary Prisoners of Plenty on Saturday, November 8, at 7:00 p.m. at the Brown Grand Theatre.
The film explores life at Camp Concordia through the memories of German prisoners, local workers, and farmers who hired prisoners to work as farm labor.
A discussion with guest speakers Thomas Nelson, Jack Meister, and Lowell May will follow the viewing. Nelson, who produced the documentary, is a professor at Elon University.
Meister, a former Cloud County Community College instructor, recently translated over 200 wartime letters for his book The Last Furlough.
May, a retired Command Sergeant Major and historian, helped preserve Camp Concordia and authored several books on POWs in Kansas. The event is free and open to the public.
