On Tuesday, Governor Laura Kelly issued an order for flags across Kansas to be flown at half-staff immediately and remain so until sundown on the day of interment, honoring the passing of Vice President Dick Cheney.
Vice President Cheney, who served as the 46th Vice President of the United States from 2001 to 2009, had a long career in public service. He was previously White House Chief of Staff under President Gerald Ford, represented Wyoming’s at-large congressional district for ten years, and served as Secretary of Defense during President George H.W. Bush’s administration.
“Vice President Cheney spent his life in service to our nation and was renowned for both his deep knowledge and commitment,” Governor Laura Kelly said. “His legacy will reflect his work to reshape the vice presidency and his conviction to upholding the ideals that the United States was founded upon. My deepest condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this challenging time.”
