River Valley District, which covers Clay, Cloud, Republic, and Washington counties, shared that June is National Dairy Month.
National Dairy Month, originally known as National Milk Month, began in 1937. While it originally started out to encourage drinking milk and to stabilize the dairy demand, it is now a month that honors the various contributions the dairy industry has made across the globe.
River Valley Extension District shared that Kansas ranks 16th in the U.S. for milk production, and 15th in the U.S. for milk output per cow. About 75% of milk produced in Kansas is processed within the state. In the River Valley District, there are 4,100 dairy cows between Clay and Washington Counties.
