OCCK, Inc. is teaming up with the Disability Rights Center of Kansas (DRC Kansas) and the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) to host The Power of Advocacy: From Awareness to Action, a three-part community series designed to equip people with disabilities, their families, and supporters with practical advocacy skills.
The sessions, led by Rocky Nichols, Executive Director of DRC Kansas, will cover topics such as the new person-centered guardianship law effective in 2026, Medicaid rights and appeals, housing rights, assistive technology, and strategies for strengthening natural supports like families, caregivers, and community networks.
Nichols said the series will provide attendees with tools to better navigate systems and protect disability rights. OCCK President and CEO Shelia Nelson-Stout emphasized that the program aims to turn awareness into action, empowering participants to understand their rights and advocate confidently.
All sessions are free, held at OCCK (1710 W. Schilling Ave., Conference Room 6) and available via Zoom on October 21, November 6, and December 2. Registration and accommodations can be requested at occk.com.
