Riley County Health Department Presents “The First Day: A Focus on the Beginning” at AMC

The Riley County Health Department is hosting a special screening of “The First Day: A Focus on the Beginning” at the local AMC theater on Tuesday, June 20 at 6PM. The 45-minute film will be followed by a brief discussion.

This thought-provoking and emotionally-charged documentary challenges preconceptions about vulnerability to substance use and addiction.

It emphasizes the importance of working together and supporting one another to make a positive impact on someone’s life. The event aims to bring together parents, young adults, teachers, and community members.

“The First Day” features Chris Herren, a former professional basketball player, author, and wellness advocate, who has shared his personal recovery journey with over 1 million people nationwide.

The film explores Herren’s vulnerability and his deep connections with high school students, who have also shared their stories of struggle and resilience.

Through the power of storytelling, “The First Day” addresses issues such as substance use, harmful behaviors, and mental wellness, which affect school systems, communities, and individuals across the country on a daily basis.
