Vazquez Homers Off Top Prospect in AFL Win

Royals infield prospect Daniel Vazquez made the most of his Arizona Fall League outing Saturday, homering off Top 100 pitching prospect Rhett Lowder in Surprise’s 6–4 win over Peoria. The 21-year-old’s solo shot left the bat at 106.1 mph and traveled 392 feet, his second homer of the fall. Vazquez also stole third, forcing a throwing error that led to another run.

After hitting .260 with 32 extra-base hits for High-A Quad Cities this season, Vazquez has improved to a .306/.427/.435 line with 14 RBIs for Surprise. Once compared to Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado when he signed with Kansas City in 2021, Vazquez said learning to care for his body has helped both his hitting and defense. He’s also added third base to his defensive mix as he works toward a possible utility role in the Royals’ future.
