The Royals will continue building around young talent in 2026, with several prospects expected to compete for roster spots.
Catcher Carter Jensen, a Kansas City native, impressed during his September call-up, batting .300 with power and poise behind the plate. He’ll likely share duties with veteran Salvador Perez next season.
Right-hander Ben Kudrna, another local product, advanced to Triple-A Omaha this year. Despite late-season struggles, the 22-year-old could contribute as a starter or reliever in 2026 if added to the 40-man roster this winter.
Pitcher Luinder Avila also made his mark in limited big-league action, posting a 1.29 ERA over 13 outings. His mid-90s fastball and sharp curveball give Kansas City flexibility to use him as either a starter or bullpen arm.
Together, these three prospects represent the next wave of the Royals’ homegrown core.
