The Wakefield Library is set to break ground on its first ever expansion.
The Library was built in the late 1930s as a WPA project. In the years since, members of the library’s board say they have outgrown the space and needed an expansion.
Funds for the expansion were set aside over 15 years ago by a loyal patron of the library upon her passing. Wakefield Library Board president Janita Witty said those funds will add much needed space and several new amenities to the building, such as a small kitchenette.
The groundbreaking is set for 10 am on March 13. Witty said the public is invited to attend the event.
Witty and the rest of the board said they are excited for the new expansion and are looking forward to its completion, scheduled for September of this year.
