Zelinski to be Charged with Multiple Counts Following Hit and Run

On May 4th, 2023, Jacob Zelinski, 27, of Beloit, Kansas, was involved in a hit and run accident in Clay County, Kansas that resulted in the death of Dale D. Hammond of Clay Center, Kansas. Zelinski was eventually apprehended and arrested at the scene.

According to court documents, Zelinski is being charged with one severity level 2 person felony, one severity level 5 person felony, one class B nonperson misdemeanor, one unclassified misdemeanor, and two traffic infractions.

The charges include: Murder in the Second Degree (a severity level 2 person felony); Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death (a severity level 5 person felony); Driving under the Influence (a class B nonperson misdemeanor); Improper Driving on a Laned Roadway (a traffic infraction); Illegal Registration (an unclassified misdemeanor); and Failure to Wear a Seat Belt (a traffic infraction).

The last report is that Zelinski is still in the Clay County Jail awaiting trial. His next court date is scheduled for June 29th, at 10:00 a.m. This will be a preliminary hearing.
