History Alive! Returning to Geary County in April

Geary County Historical Society

History is coming alive at the Spring Valley Historic Site on April 25th and April 26th, and the Geary County Historical Society is seeking those with historic skills or reenactors that specialize in the late 19th century, as well as plain clothes volunteers to be a part of it. History Alive! is a two-day event, with one day dedicated to educating local 8th graders and the second day open to the public. Reenactors and volunteers are sought for both days.

This will be the third year for History Alive! in the Geary County community. Previous years included early plains reenactors, hands on lessons on using hand-crank sewing machines, doing domestic chores as a pioneer, and exploring a tipi. The event takes place at the Spring Valley Historic Site, which includes two 1850s era log cabins and the original one-room schoolhouse from the area within the grounds.

Those interested in volunteering at the event should contact Kim Neptune at gearyhistoryprograms@gmail.com or call 785-238-1666 for more information.
