Clay Center Community High School’s Tiger Speech and Drama group is getting excited for its annual “Haunted Rex” haunted house fundraiser. This is one of the group’s largest fundraisers of the year, with proceeds helping them put on shows and events, such as this, for the community.
Themed “The Laboratory of Torment,” the Haunted House will be open on October 31st and November 1st, with hauntings occurring from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. each night.
Student Greyson Brandt said they had been coming up with ideas for the haunted house since the summer. They wanted to try something a little different this year.
“This year, we kind of started preparing the idea for our theme this year, which is ‘The Laboratory of Torment,’ a sort of mad scientist theme. We came up with the idea sometime over the summer.”
“We were thinking we need to do something a little bit different than what we’ve done before. So, we’re trying something out, and we’ve been having a lot of fun preparing for it and coming up with ideas.”
Those brave enough to attend will start at the back of the auditorium, weaving their way through the Rex, including the unfinished basement, before exiting through the front.
Attendees can expect a good amount of body parts, experiments gone wrong, and more. Student Ellen Padgette said the students handmake almost all the props and come up with the designs and characters.
“We’re going to have some doctor themes, body parts, mutations, experiments gone wrong, you know, that sort of thing.”
“We have put in a bit of effort to try to make the whole thing a bit longer this year.”
“A lot of our stuff is handmade by the students. We design the props, we come up with the themes, we create the scripts for the actors; it is all student-led.”
This Halloween, take the time to support the local students with a visit to the Rex Theatre for a haunting adventure.
Tickets will be available at the door.
