1st Infantry Division Band Concert at the Brown Grand

By Payton Tholstrup

On Saturday, May 4th at 6:00 p.m., the 1st Infantry Division Band from Fort Riley will be performing at the Brown Grand Opera House in Concordia. They will be playing patriotic song selections following the POW Camp Concordia’s Annual Victory Day Celebration.

The concert is a fundraiser to support the Brown Grand and the POW Camp in Concordia. Instead of concertgoers purchasing tickets, donations will be accepted at the door. Proceeds will be split between the two organizations.

The 1st Infantry Division Band is the musical ambassador for the United States’ premier fighting force. The Big Red One Band represents the 1st Infantry Division for military ceremonies and the communities that support American soldiers. They play a variety of music, such as show tunes, marches, and band music of the 40s and 50s, and have 38 members in their ensemble.

“We are thrilled to have the 1st Infantry Division Band back at the Brown Grand for a performance. They are a superior ensemble, and this will be a fantastic program!” Melissa Swenson, Brown Grand Director, said.
