Obituary-Anita Chartier

Anita Ruth Chartier, age 94, formerly of Concordia, died Monday, March 25, 2024, at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield, Kansas.  Anita was born on December 8, 1929, in Washington County, Kansas, one of twin daughters born to Leslie and Mary Inez (McGregor) Stanton. 

Anita was a 1948 graduate of Clifton High School, Clifton, Kansas. On December 16, 1949, she married Sidney Chartier.  They made their home in Concordia and enjoyed 59 years together.  Anita was a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell for over 30 years, retiring in 1981.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Concordia for over 60 years.  She also belonged to the VFW Auxiliary, Telephone Pioneers, and Atheneum club.

Anita enjoyed gardening, and her flower gardens were her pride and joy.  She and Sid liked to travel with their fifth-wheel and belonged to the Drifting Clouds camping club and NCHA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney, her parents, and her twin sister Juanita Hruza.  She is survived by her sister, Sondra Mockabee, Franklin, NH; daughter, Gwendolyn Tyler (Robert), Winfield, KS; son, Barry Chartier, South Jordan, UT; grandchildren, Christopher Tyler, Winfield, KS; Danielle Morris, Phoenix, AZ, Megan Chartier (Charilla), West Jordan, UT; great-grandchildren, Mary Tyler, Cooper Chartier, and Eleanor Maloney.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church in Concordia with the Reverend Mark Crist officiating.  Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia.  

A visitation will be held at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home on Monday, April 1, 2024, from 1-8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6-8 pm.
