Delores Marie Germann, 92, of Clay Center passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at the Clay Center Presbyterian Manor in Clay Center. She was born October 26, 1931, the daughter of the late Emmett James and Hazel Schrumm on the family farm in Longford, Kansas. She was the youngest of 4 children, brothers Mellies, Kenneth (Bud), and Emmett (Pete) James.
She attended a one room grade school and attended high school through her freshmen year at CCCHS. She married Dale A. Beauchamp on September 23, 1948. To this union was born Dwight E. and Durwin D. Beauchamp. Delores was married to Dale for 45 years until his death on November 1, 1993. She later married Donald J. Germann on September 2, 1995 and became stepmother to Jim, Pam, Tammy, and Greg Germann. Don later passed in February of 2002.
Delores was a member of the Clay Center Wesleyan Church. She was a faithful believer in God and always said “Why worry when you can pray”.
She began her working career as a waitress in several local restaurants while her “mama” was the cook and at the Clay Center Country Club. She then became a retail clerk for Snyder’s Jewely which later became Pfeifley’s Jewely Store. Later she worked at Ray’s Apple Market as a product sampler until her forced retirement in 2020 due to COVID at the age of 89 years old. Delores loved her work being in the public and getting to see babies and children every day.
Delores was a Hospice volunteer and enjoyed taking patients and friends wherever they needed to go. She loved to have coffee several times a week with her best friends and played bridge weekly with her club. She also tutored children in reading in her home.
She loved the outdoors, especially in the spring when she could be out planting her garden, going for walks, or just sitting outside on her patio every evening. She loved to make Sunday dinners for her family for years.
Nothing brought her more joy than being surrounded by her family. She wanted to spend time with them often. She attended all her son’s sports activities and later her granddaughter’s and when able, her great grandchildren’s activities.
Delores is survived by her sons, Dwight E. Beauchamp and his wife, Allie of Woodbridge, VA. and Durwin and his wife, Mick Beauchamp of Clay Center, KS.; 5 grandchildren Torrie (Aaron) Battle of Louisburg, KS., Hayle (Chris) Collins of The Colony, TX., Frank (Heather) Beauchamp, Katherine Beauchamp, and Kris Scofield of Woodbridge, VA., 15 great grand kids, Declan, Tatum, Colston, Chris, Jeff, Eric, Clay, Jared, Preston, Pierce, Payne, Jacob and Katherine, Lemme, and Noah and several great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at the Clay Center Covenant Church in Clay Center, Kansas.
Visitation will be held from 9-10:30 AM prior to the funeral services on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at the church.
Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center, Kansas.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and can be sent in care of the funeral home.
