Galen F. Wietharn, 92 of Clay Center, Kansas passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 14, 2023. He was born on September 28, 1931 on a farm near Baileyville, Kansas, the son of Ed and Irmena (Rettele) Wietharn. He attended school in Baileyville.
Galen served in the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1953, serving 11 months in Korea. He married Cleta Haug on January 28, 1954. They were the first couple married in the new Catholic Church in Baileyville. They farmed near Axtell, Kansas for 19 years before moving to a farm west of Clay Center, where they continued to farm until 2010, when they made their home in Clay Center. Galen was a member of the SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
Galen had a passion for farming, woodworking and supporting the K-State Wildcats.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and son in-law, Mike McMahan.
Galen is survived by his wife, Cleta Wietharn of Clay Center, Kansas; son, Gary and wife Jodie of Kansas City, Kansas, daughter, Gale McMahan of Clay Center, Kansas, son Bob and his wife, Debbie Wietharn of Clay Center, Kansas and son, Rick and his wife, Lori Wietharn of Westminster, Colorado; 14 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and 12 brothers and sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30AM on Monday, December 18, 2023 at the SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Clay Center, Kansas.
Visitation will be held from 3-5PM on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center, Kansas with a Vigil and Rosary recited at 5PM.
Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center, Kansas.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association/Heart of America Chapter and can be sent in care of the funeral home.
