Obituary-Jenny Jones

Genevieve “Jenny” Anna Jones, age 96 entered into rest on Sunday, August 20, 2023 at the Park Villa Nursing Home, Clyde.  She was born in Republic County, Kansas on March 8, 1927 to Irvin and Mary (Dunphy) Hockman.

Jenny was a 1945 graduate of Clyde High School, Clyde, Kansas.  She went on to receive her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education from Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas.

Jenny taught all eight grades in country schools, north of Clyde.  She also taught school at all the air bases where David was stationed.

Genevieve married, David Jones on Feb. 6, 1954 in Clyde, Kansas.  Genevieve and David lived in California, Massachusetts, Hawaii, Arkansas, and Texas, during his service in the US Air Force.  After Davd’s retirement they moved back to Clyde and Jenny taught the second grade at Clyde until her retirement.

Jenny enjoyed quilting, knitting, gardening, painting, and most of all spending time with her family.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, VFW Women’s Aux., all of Clyde, and Delta Kappa Gamma Society for women educators.

Genevieve is survived by her sister, JoAnne Balthazor, Clyde, KS; sister-in-law, Martha Jones, Newington, NH; and nephews and nieces, Bart & Jean (Kenworthy) Balthazor, Valley Center, KS; Kurt & Erin (Brunell) Balthazor, Pittsburg, KS; Gary & Mary Naillieux, Valparaiso, Ind.; and great nephews and nieces, Warren, Elliott, Miles, Evan (Mara), and baby Samuel Balthazor, Claire (Isaac) Barnhart, and Connor, and Ainsley Balthazor and a community of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband David, parents, Irvin and Mary, a brother, Arthur Hockman, and sister, Gloria Naillieux.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am, Thursday., August 24, 2023 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Clyde with Fr. Joseph Kieffer officiating.  Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Clyde, Kansas.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Chaput Mortuary from 1:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m..  Family will receive friends after the Rosary Service.
