Obituary-Nola Unruh

Nola (Kruse) Unruh, age 85, died January 10, 2024, at the Presbyterian Manor in Clay Center. She was born in Halstead, KS on February 27, 1938, to Edward and Esther (Eidse) Kruse. Nola grew up in rural McPherson County and graduated from Moundridge High School as well as Bethel College, earning her teaching degree. Nola married Gary Unruh on July 14, 1961. To this union a son was born, Steven. After their marriage in 1961 Gary and Nola moved to Ailsa Craig, Ontario, Canada, where they both taught school at Ailsa Craig Boys’ Farm, a school for troubled youth. They then moved to Indiana and worked in a school while earning their master’s degrees during the summer. In 1966, they moved back to Kansas. Nola served as school lunch clerk and the United Methodist Church Financial Secretary. She was an active member or the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Nola’s hobbies were making Barbie doll clothes for little girls and reading. She and Gary also enjoyed traveling. She is preceded in death by parents, and sister-in-law, Karen Becker

Funeral Services: Friday, January 19, 2024, at 10:30 at the Clay Center United Methodist Church in Clay Center, KS 

Burial: Family and friends can attend the committal at 2:00 PM at the Peace Valley Cemetery, Rural Durham, Kansas

Visitation: Thursday, January 18, 2024, from 4-7 PM at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home

Memorials: Parkinson Foundation or the Clay Center United Methodist Church c/o the funeral home
