Former Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt Announces Bid for Second Congressional District

Derek Schmidt, who previously served as the Attorney General of Kansas, has announced his intention to run for the Republican nomination in the Second Congressional District of Kansas.

During his 12-year tenure as Attorney General, Schmidt demonstrated a commitment to law enforcement, prosecuting a wide range of criminals, including numerous undocumented immigrants who had committed offenses in Kansas. He spearheaded key initiatives aimed at safeguarding children from sexual predators and defending elderly Kansans from financial exploitation and physical harm. Schmidt represented Kansas at the United States Supreme Court, where he personally presented arguments in three cases, all of which he won. In addition, he consistently took legal action against the Obama and Biden Administrations whenever their policies were deemed unlawful and detrimental to Kansas.

“My family and I are grateful for the many friends and neighbors who have reached out to let us know they believe we have more to offer Kansas,” said Schmidt, a fifth-generation Kansan. “I feel a calling to serve, so I am excited to announce that I am running. I strongly believe that America needs more effective, conservative voices in public service.”
