For the first time since the failed April 2 ballot measure, the Royals admitted they are looking into STAR bonds as a means to move across the state line. Kansas lawmakers considering STAR bonds to lure the Kansas City Chiefs also opened possibilities for the Royals, according to the organization.
The Royals will explore all options since voters failed to pass a sales tax in April that would have funded a new Royals Stadium in the Crossroads District and renovations at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
On Saturday, the Royals released a statement that they are joining the Chiefs in exploring STAR bonds as a means to move to Kansas. Kansas officials support using STAR bonds for this purpose, while Missouri officials, including Governor Mike Parson, are working to keep the teams in Missouri. Kansas lawmakers will reconvene on June 18.
