A Junction City couple is preparing to host their final blood drive after 15 years of pairing the event with their wedding anniversary.
This week marks the final time Joyce and Tom McRae will host the blood drive. It’s at the Junction City Municipal Building from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. It also marks the couple’s 55th wedding anniversary. Joyce McRae said in a statement that donating on the couple’s anniversary was her husband’s idea.
Joyce said that anyone can go to dinner or on a cruise for their anniversary, but anyone can also host a blood drive.
Joyce has donated more than 12 gallons of blood in her lifetime, while Tom’s total is 14 gallons, starting when he enlisted in the military at age 18. The couple plans to donate at their final drive, and their goal this year is to gather at least 98 units.
