Judge Grants Injunction Preventing Junction City from Cutting EMS Services to Those Outside City Limits

By Payton Tholstrup

5th Judicial District Judge, W. Lee Fowler, has granted a request by the Geary County Commissioners for a temporary injunction in an EMS Services Case.

The city will be prevented from suspending EMS services outside city limits. Junction City had planned to suspend EMS services to the “unincorporated areas” outside the city on February 20th if there was no agreement on the issue.

It was also decided that the county must keep paying for the service.

Junction City and Geary County have been disagreeing on the amount that the county is supposed to pay for EMS services outside city limits. Under an existing contract, the county is to share two-thirds of the cost. The city is supposed to share 1/3 of the cost.

Judge W. Lee Fowler of the 5th Judicial District announced the two entities will be able to continue negotiations and determine a new contract. A hearing for an update in the case will take place on April 3rd at 9:30 a.m.
