KDWP Submits Five-Year Review

By Trish Svoboda

The Nongame and Endangered Species Conservation Act of 1975 requires a five-year review of the state Endangered, Threatened, and Species-In-Need-of-Conservation (SINC) lists.

For a full review, applications are evaluated by the T&E Task Committee to determine if there’s enough evidence presented by a petitioner to conduct a full review. Factors considered are population, extent of threat, listing rank, and evidence of vulnerability.

For their current review, KDWP has submitted three petitions to the Task Committee that they determined call for a full review, as stated in a social media post.

The three petitions request that the shoal chub, broad-headed skink, and the northern map turtle be moved from threatened to SINC.

The post also stated that the full review process will include public meeting and a consultation with experts who evaluate petitions, and provide feedback to anything that was overlooked.

Listed below are the scheduled meetings.
